Do you have enough Education Credits?
Teresa Kirkhart at PWAR can help you navigate through the required classes. PWAR offers a wide variety of educational options to get you back in compliance so you can renew your license. 16 Hours - You must complete at least 2 hours in Fair Housing, 3 hours in Ethics & Standards of Conduct, 1 hour in Real Estate Agency, 1 hour in Real Estate Contracts, and 1 hour in Legal Updates. The remaining 8 hours may be in Real Estate Related. 30 Hours – 15 hours of Mandatory (3 each- Ethics, Fair Housing, Agency Law, Real Estate Law & Offer to Purchase), 15 hours Elective. All of these classes can be satisfied through the Total Agent Series March, July & November. Continuing Education-16 Hours & Broker 24 Hours can be completed in January, May & September.

Referral Status?
Even though your license might be in referral status, you still are required to stay current on your education credits. Teresa Kirkhart can get your registered for classes (many conveniently held in the evening). Or call 703-565-0033.

How do I reactivate my license?
An Inactive licensee must fill out and submit to the Board the "Activate/Transfer" application to activate his/her licensee and complete the required education. The fee for this application is $60. Licensees with activate questions can call the Board's Licensing Section at DPOR - 804-367-8526.

Education Requirements:
If you are a salesperson who has renewed your license at least once before, a total of 16 hours of continuing education is required to activate your license. You must complete at least 2 hours in Fair Housing, 3 hours in Ethics & Standards of Conduct, 1 hour in Real Estate Agency, 1 hour in Real Estate Contracts, and 1 hour in Legal Updates. The remaining 8 hours may be in Real Estate Related Subjects or in the specific continuing education subjects mentioned earlier in this paragraph.

*Note – New salespersons must complete 30 hours of post license education within the first year to the date of initial license issuance to renew their license for the first time. Post license education and continuing education are completely different types of Board-approved education.

If you hold a broker’s license (Principle or Associate), a total of 24 hours of continuing education is required to activate your license. You must complete at least 2 hours in Fair Housing, 3 hours in Ethics & Standards of Conduct, 1 hour in Real Estate Agency, 1 hour in Real Estate Contracts, 1 hour in Legal Updates and 8 hours in Broker Management. The remaining 8 hours may be in Real Estate Related Subjects or in the specific continuing education subjects mentioned earlier in this paragraph.



If your license is inactive for more than three (3) years, you must have at one time completed the current pre-license education requirements for salesperson (60 hours of “Principles of Real Estate Course”) and brokers (180 hours of specific courses) to activate your license. Proof of education must be submitted with this application.
